Port
of Bandon
Regular
Commission Meeting
October
22, 2009 5pm
Port
of Bandon Office
Bandon,
Oregon
Commissioners
present: Donny Goddard, Reg Pullen, Rick Goche
Staff: Gina
Dearth, Trudy Spanier
Guests: Dawn and Gareth Williams
President Goddard called the meeting to order at
5:40PM. Motion to approve the consent
calendar was made by Commissioner Pullen, seconded by Commissioner Goche and
unanimously approved.
Gina
Dearth reported that the asphalt rehabilitation project was completed by Knife
River and the grant with OSMB closed.
The sidewalk project in front of the Coast Guard Building had begun,
with the old sidewalk being removed on Monday October 26th. Staff has submitted a grant to Preserving
Oregon for the window repairs in the Coast Guard Building. Tony Roszkowski has asked for permission from
the port manager to look for ideas to expand the size of his existing building
to provide for a separate area for a private office. Ms. Dearth seeks consent of the commissioners
to encourage the idea of expansion, and look into costs as well as
engineering. Following discussion, it
was agreed upon that this would be a good idea.
Permission was granted. Kathy
Ingram who is the grant writer that was hired for the River Trails Grant came
to port offices seeking to have permission to write another $50,000.00 free of
charge for the River Trails through the Oregon Parks and Recreation grant. She will do this as a kind gesture, noting
that the last grant did not score well.
Terence O’Connor was contacted and he was appreciative of the
offer. The time set by the Port of
Bandon for Coos County to deed Johnson Log Pond to the Coquille Tribe is
rapidly approaching on October 31st.
Melissa Cribbens has been in contact with Ms. Dearth, and it seems that
not much has transpired since Coos County received the letter from Port of
Bandon. Jackie Haggerty was contacted by
Ms. Dearth, and Ms. Haggerty had no news.
Johnson Log Pond is beautiful right now, lush and green after the last
few days of rain. All is going well. Ms. Dearth stated that if the port does
continue stewardship, the dike and the pump will need attention almost
immediately. Commissioner Pullen feels
that if the deed is returned to the Port, then it is all good. He went on to state that if the deed is
turned back, the port should pursue developing it into an RV park, applying for
zoning and whatever else it entailed.
Grants could be had to enable this process.
Ms.
Dearth reminded the commissioners that both the November and December
commission meetings would be pushed up on the calendar to accommodate the
upcoming holidays. She then solicited
ideas for the Commission Christmas Party.
President Goddard mentioned that perhaps a caterer could be looked
into.
There
being no further business, President Goddard adjourned the meeting at 6:02PM.
